The region of Smolyan is situated in southern Bulgaria, in the central part of the Rhodope Mountains, with area of 3231.8 sq.m. Smolyan adjoins with the regions of Plovdiv, Pazardjik, Kardzhali and Blagoevgrad, and also has a common south border with Greece.
